Hiking Flatiron

December 3, 2011

I (Andrew) climbed Flatiron with my dad (Graeme) on 19 November. The Flatiron is a flat-topped feature in the Superstitions. It was a nice hike, similar to the scrambling found on Picketpost, with a rewarding view at the top. Personally, I found the trail to be very crowded with families and boy scout troops. The congestion on the trail and the rockfall that people caused took a lot out of my experience. I would recommend Picketpost instead.

The Praying Hands from the trail.

The Praying Hands are spires that Thomas has been interested in climbing for awhile…perhaps we will have a trip report soon about that.

The Flatiron is the flat-topped feature, surrounded by cliffs, in the center of the picture.

The canyon has tons of intriguing walls to climb.

First time hoisting the summit flag! At the top of Flatiron.

My dad and I climbed Flatiron on Saturday, and on Wednesday a plane crashed here. Six people were killed.
