Trip to Europe

June 21, 2012

Thomas left Prague back to Phoenix on 11 June. We had a really cool trip and got the chance to do a lot of things such as:

1. Climb Rysy, highpoint of Poland.

2. Attempt Gerlach, highpoint of Slovakia. We were stopped due to a snowstorm.

3. See Prague.

4. See Munich, and attempt Zugspitze.

5. Take a cable car to Zugspitze.

6. See Innsbruck.

7. Visit Cesky Krumlov.

With the internet connection being horrible over here it is very difficult to upload pictures, so those will have to wait a bit…unless Thomas writes them.

On 11 June my dad and I left to Bucharest. We visited the city for a day and then drove into the mountains. We visited Poeinari Castle, where Vlad Dracul (aka Vlad the Impaler, Count Dracula, Vlad Tepes) made his last stand against the Turks.

Then we drove to the Fagaras Mountains and climbed Moldoveanu, highpoint of Romania. We did the hike from Balea Lac in a day which was 24 miles and 7300 feet of elevation gain. It was a long day, to say the least.

The next day we visited Sibiu and Sighisoara, and stayed in Brasov. The next day we visited Bran Castle, Rasnov, and Poinana Brasov.

The next day we drove to Busteni and did a little hike. The next day we took a cable car and did a longer hike.

Then we drove to the airport and left.

Apologies for the extremely concise trip report, once I get some good internet connection this will be made into a nice trip report.
